*melody sound* "Refreshment is here.."
It was tea time,
I didn intend to get anything.
But just wanted to walk outside,
away from my desk and get some fresh air.

Than I met The China friend again.
This China Friend came about the same period when I first came to MCYS.
I was at the Human resource department and we were waiting for the lift.

Hee hee being such a key poh and curious as i am,
we chatted and i knew he wasnt local.
He is from China and came to Singapore to work.
He's working @ one of the staff canteen as kitchen assisant.

So today, saw him again and we spoke for a longer time since there was nobody buying anything from his tray. *the food wasnt that fantastic... so ya..

Anyways, I found out from him that He doesnt have a DAY OFF, works from 5AM til 530pm, 7 days in a week. stays at his boss place and he has to pay $9000 SGD to come here, exclusive of his food and lodging. His boss still deduct $100 per month for lodging. It may seem cheap enough, but he worked everyday non stop, and already paid $9000 before he came!!

My god...So hE'S working for 'free' basically, must pay this pay that.. leaving him a little to call back home.....

Typical you may ask, maids are also like tat.. but i was still shocked and a bit sympathetic...
Why must he work everyday? I mean, at least maid get to rest @ home, or now the law is you either give a day off to your maids or pay her extra $25 per day.
See? at least even maids get paid if they dont have day off...

My china friend here? doesnt even get paid and still in debt. He told me : *in chinese "Aiya foreign workers like us is like that one lah.." *Amazed that i can communicate with him right? Come on, My 'Chi-Na' not that lousy lor..

I mean come on, foreign workers are also humans, put that international status aside, EVERYONE needs a break, Im having IPP 5 days a week and im already complaining like hell... Im starting to feel guilty already...

But he's got a two year contract , so after that, he gets his PR and he can either stick to his job, or find a better one.
My China Friend is a Chef back in SHANGDONG, CHINA, nice place =]
But he's just a assistance now, here in Singapore frying some mixed dough food...* talk about a waste of talents..*

I feel its a waste.. I mean his guy is just trying to earn more to give his wife and son a better life back in China wat...

we talked about other things and I went to the reception desk , took a pen and paper and gave him my number..wrote my Chinese name *gosh.. i very long never write my chinese name liao.. it looks very wierd.. a bit out. heehee*

He was surprised, he didn asked but i gave him.
Why?
I told him after his two year contract, if he's still in Singapore, and If he wants to learn English, Can drop me a line, I'll teach him whenever I can.
He said he cant afford.
I said, " Who's saying anything about paying? Im helping you as a friend .. you will get a beter job if you are able to speak some English..if not, you'll find a job and they cheat your money for some lousy En-ga-rish lessons taught by fellow workers then how? "
"Btw, my name is 'Lu Chi Hui' .."

when I went back, the receptionist asked why I gave him my number? He could be a bad person for all I know, and Im a girl...

I just said: "He's my friend =] *smiles"

Truth is, Im only giving him my number, Not my address or anything, nor are we going on a date or anything. I choose to trust somebody I believe its worthy of my trust until its proven otherwise. I would rather think he can get a better job and his family will live better and he maybe a Chef here if he's successful than to ponder about whether is he bluffing me, trying to cheat my money and stuff...*i got better things to do than to occupy my mind with negatives thoughts*

I mean come on, I'm considered an adult, if he calls me at suspicious hours @ funny places than obviously I wun go rite? Or if Its urgent than get a male friend along or sth. For all you know, He might really be in deep trouble and he's alone, Who's going to help him ?

Point is, Foreign workers came here not to be labourers, they came to support their family back in their home town just like your parents working their hearts out for the family...

My mum, She working hers out, and I thank her for reminding me how my life will not be what it is today without her...Thanks mum =]

I work every time, because I need to support myself as much as I can, and lift some load off her heavy burden, thought minimal, I cannot bear to let her carry all...

Anways, be nice =] love the world, love yourself, spread the love =]

And my China Friend, his name is Guo Lin Heng, write it in my blog in case i forget his name when he calls..

Will be looking forward to another great Chef in the making =]... I told him I'll be looking forward to his chinese shangdong crusine in Singapore, he walked away, with a smile on his face got that *Really meh? I can be a Chef here meh? *

Why not? ...
